What is camp all about?

Camp Sensation offers a variety of zany and creative activities that foster abilities in motor development, language, socialization and play skills, all disguised as good old fashioned fun! A multi-disciplinary team of occupational, physical and speech-language therapists help the children gain the optimal experience from each day's activities.

Who is this camp for?

Camp Sensation day camp is an innovative camp, unique in design and purpose. Created for children with special needs and their siblings, this camp program also offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for children to be part of an extraordinary experience. Although camp is not designed to be a therapy program, a multidisciplinary team of occupational, physical, and speech therapists, together with volunteers, provide a supportive, engaging, and rewarding experience for all who attend. Campers ages 4 and 5 attend a half-day camp from 9:00am-12pm. Campers ages 6 and upattend camp from 9:00am-3pm.

Where is this camp?

The camp will be held at the Ulster Elementary School. Your child must have transportation to and from camp. The Ulster Elementary School has both indoor and outdoor facilities at our disposal. While most of the activities will take place outside, weather may force us to take activities inside.

Camp Sensation offers children
- A supportive environment surrounded by peers
- Increased confidence and independence
- Opportunities for social interaction
- Improved play skills
- Physical benefits of increased activity
- Preparedness for mainstream camps or other community-based experiences

Can my brothers or sisters come to camp?

Yes. Each camper is encouraged to bring a sibling or siblings between the ages of 4 and 15. All campers, including siblings, are charged a registration fee. The camper and his or her siblings will have the opportunity to work together in the different activities.

What will the children do at camp?

There are regular rotations to different stations throughout the day, including art and craft activities, sports, sensorimotor, water play, language, social interaction and music. Typically developing children are given guidance for understanding and helping children with special needs, and everyone has a great time.

Is food provided?

We will be providing a snack and beverages, however, you will have to send a bagged lunch with your child/children. Please let staff know if your child has allergies to any type of food.

CAMP COST:

Registration fee is $10 per child

Full Day - 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for children ages 6 and up
Half Day - 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for children ages 4 and 5

Checks payable to: Camp Sensation.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
In order to make camp a fun and safe experience for your child, other campers and the counselors, your child must be able to do the following without showing aggressive or unsafe behaviors:
- Participate in group activities (i.e. able to tolerate redirection verbally or with minimal assistance)
- Stay in group without running away
- Attend to activities for at least 5 to 10 minutes and transition from one activity to another with minimal assistance.

Parents should review the criteria carefully to ensure that each child meets the eligibility requirements as outlined. It is at the discretion of your child's group leader and/or the camp coordinators to decide if your child is appropriate for the program as Memorial Hospital wants the camp experience to be fun and safe for all who attend.

Children in wheelchairs and with physical disabilities are welcome at camp! However, a 1:1 assistant or family member must accompany the child if there are specific needs in the areas of feeding, medication, bathroom use or with mobility.
