TOWANDA - By demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety, Memorial Hospital in Towanda along with its Home Health / Hospice and Laboratory have earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval.

"We sought accreditation for our organization because we want to demonstrate our commitment to patients' safety and quality care," says Gary A. Baker, Memorial Hospital President and CEO. "We view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward achieving and maintaining excellence."

Mr. Baker spoke of his pride in the hospital staff, "We appreciate the educational aspect of the survey and the opportunity to interact with the team of surveyors. I am proud of our hospital staff for this accomplishment." He called the accreditation, "proof of an organization-wide commitment to provide quality care on an ongoing basis."

The Joint Commission conducted an unannounced, on-site evaluation of Memorial Hospital and its Home Health / Hospice organization on October 23 - 26, 2007. The hospital's Laboratory was evaluated by the Joint Commission March 27-29, 2007 and has been awarded accreditation.

The accreditation awards recognize Memorial Hospital's dedication to complying with the Joint Commission's state-of-the-art standards on a continuous basis.
