Program Description The Nursing Assistant Program offers career opportunities related to nursing homes and hospitals. Students receive classroom instruction as well as supervised clinical experiences in nursing care at our Skilled Nursing Unit. The program is certified by the Department of Health through the state of Pennsylvania, preparing the student to be successful in meeting state and federal regulated competencies as a nursing assistant. The nursing assistant assists the nursing team in bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulating, and transporting residents. They also assist with meeting the physical and emotional needs of residents. The Nursing Assistant Program is an opportunity to learn skills and prepare for a career in the health field. If you have a genuine desire to help people, are willing to accept delegated tasks, and work as part of a team, a career as a nursing assistant may be for you. This field of work also serves as a stepping-stone for further education in nursing or health occupations. Graduates of the program will receive a certificate upon completion and after successfully being tested by the American Red Cross you will be registered with the State of Pennsylvania as a Nursing Assistant. Career Opportunities There are many job openings for nursing assistants in Bradford and Sullivan Counties as well as throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. The nursing assistant performs basic residents needs under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse. Employment is found in hospitals, nursing homes, and in-home health care environments.
