Podiatry

WHAT IS A PODIATRIST? The practice of the profession of Podiatry is defined as diagnosing, treating, operating and prescribing for any disease, injury, deformity or any other condition of the foot.

THE PHOTO TO THE RIGHT shows Dr. Renee Dickinson carefully, gently, and painlessly treating a 12-year-old patient’s planters wart cluster by scraping away the outer layer of old, dead skin before applying a medicated salve and bandage to promote the healing process.

CONDITIONS TREATED BY A PODIATRIST:

Disorders commonly treated by your Podiatrist are:
• corns
• calluses
• ingrown toenails
• thickened nails
• warts
• arch problems
• heel pain
• infections
• sprains
• fractures
• any deformity or disease associated with the feet

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT. On your first visit to a Podiatrist's office you will probably be asked to fill out a questionnaire on your health history as well as the nature of your foot problems. Your consultation will begin with your Podiatrist discussing your specific foot problem. A physical examination of the foot is then performed to ascertain the cause of your condition. X-rays may be ordered only if further information is needed for diagnosis. At this time your Podiatrist will thoroughly explain your particular problem before treatment begins. The extent of the problem, the probable cause, and the necessary steps for relief will be discussed.
