What Is Incontinence?
Incontinence is the medical term for the inability to control urination.
Urine is produced by the kidneys and stored in the bladder. The sphincter
muscles near the bladder outlet prevent urine from leaking out until the
brain indicates that it is time to urinate. When control of this process
is lost, the resulting condition is called urinary incontinence. You are
not alone! Over 14,000,000 Americans are incontinent.
Who Can Benefit?
- Women of all ages
- Men of all ages
How We Can Help...
Incontinence should not be looked upon as an unusual condition. It is
a physical disorder which can be treated and frequently cured with the
right medical help. If you are incontinent, you should ask your doctor
if the Incontinence Clinic and Biofeedback are right for you. Your therapist
will guide you through your treatment program, which usually takes two
- eight visits to the Incontinence Clinic.
Biofeedback...
Biofeedback is a learning technique that utilizes specialized equipment
to assist you in gaining control of your natural body functions. It involves
the monitoring of a life process (bio) and the return of that information
to you and your therapist in a meaningful form (feedback). Biofeedback
training enables you to see or hear how your muscles are responding to
your instructions. Becoming aware of these responses is the first step
in learning to control them. By combining this information with special
exercises, you can learn to relax tense muscles or strengthen weak muscles.
These muscles are responsible for bladder and bowel control as well as
sexual response. Anyone interested in learning how to relax tense muscles,
strengthen weak ones, or to control and coordinate use of muscles may
benefit from biofeedback.
Our specially furnished
treatment room is delightfully private. Therapy is provided discreetly
and professionally. You deserve to live without the inconvenience and
frustration of incontinence. We can help.
