Marc Alpert, MD, Board Certified General and Vascular Surgeon, recently co-authored a published
article about a randomized trial study of medications utilized for the treatment of complicated
skin and skin structure infections. These infections frequently result in patient hospitalization
with significant morbidity and mortality.
The trial study concluded that Tigecycline, an antibiotic that is administered intravenously,
was generally safe and effective in the treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections.
The study is published online at The National Center for Biotechnology Information website
(www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) and PubMed.gov which is comprised of more than 22 million citations
for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books.
Dr. Alpert joined the medical staff of Memorial Hospital and Community Health Associates LLC in Towanda in January 2012.
Dr. Alpert is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine,
Philadelphia, PA. He completed his surgical internship at Boston University Medical Center,
Boston, MA. Surgical residencies were completed at Boston University Medical Center,
Boston, MA and Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY.
Dr. Alpert completed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgeons.
Dr. Alpert brings more than 30 years of surgical experience providing both vascular and general surgery.
Examples of services include: surgical procedures of the vascular system, arteries and veins;
surgery of the abdominal organs including intestines, esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon,
liver, pancreas, gallbladder and thyroid gland. He can also help patients with diseases
involving the skin, breast, soft tissue and hernias.

Dr. Alpert and his wife, Hillary, have two adult daughters. He is an avid history buff with
an extensive library of more than 5,000 books.
