The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has established an annual $1,000 nursing scholarship
that is awarded to a nursing student enrolled in the Northern Tier Career Center's
Practical Nursing Program in Towanda.
Applicants for the scholarship must be a resident of Bradford or Sullivan County and
must have completed one level of the nursing program. Applicants must have a grade
average of 85% or higher and be paying cash or receiving loans for their nursing
education in order to qualify. Additionally, applicants submit an essay on the
reason for selecting practical nursing as their career choice.
Charlene Bennett of Memorial Hospital's Auxiliary is pleased to announce that
Cassie Dollard of Ulster is this year's winner of the annual $1,000 scholarship.
"It is always difficult to choose just one winner from the applicants," said Bennett.
"Each one deserved it in their own way. We are pleased and proud to honor Cassie this
year. She has a 96.8 GPA, an outstanding clinical evaluation, she has an exceptional
attitude and she clearly demonstrates a sincere commitment to caring for others in
the nursing profession."
Following is an excerpt from Cassie's essay: "I want to be a nurse because I love
to make people feel better. The Northern Tier Practical Nursing Program is an excellent
way to start a career in the nursing field. It's a great way to open the doors to the
numerous opportunities that are in store for us after graduation. This course prepares
us to be professional, disciplined, knowledgeable and nurturing. It has already been one
of the most rewarding experiences of my life."
This is the 10th year Memorial Hospital's Auxiliary has given the $1,000 scholarship to
a licensed practical nursing student enrolled at the Northern Tier Career Center
in North Towanda.
