Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Wins Award
at 2013 Pennsylvania Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries Conference

Memorial Hospital Auxiliary members Linda Ferrario, Talent Show Chairwoman and Marguerite Shaner, Auxiliary President proudly display their award-winning plaque. They attended the three day PAHA conference along with, not pictured, Joanne Vago, Treasurer.

Memorial Hospital’s Auxiliary was presented with an award plaque for having the most creative fund raising event among all of the Pennsylvania hospital auxiliaries at the annual Pennsylvania Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries Conference.

The Pennsylvania Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries (PAHA) is divided into six regions: Philadelphia, Central, Southwest, Eastern, Northeast, and Northwest. Each region has its own elected officers, board of directors, bylaws, meetings, workshops and programs. Memorial Hospital’s Marguerite Shaner is the elected president of the Northeast region.

"Our annual Talent Show was the winning entry for the most creative fund raising event," said Memorial Hospital Auxiliary president Marguerite Shaner. "Our talent show chairwoman, Linda Ferrario, accepted the award. Ferrario also presented a workshop on creating and organizing the Talent Show. We thank all the members of the community who make this annual event a success."

According to Shaner, The Nittany Lion Inn, State College, was the location for the 63rd PAHA Conference on May 21, 2013. This was an outstanding conference with three keynote presentations, eight workshops, and networking opportunities too numerous to count. Show and share displays created an array of events, activities and accomplishments from auxiliaries in PAHA.

Shaner explained, the theme was "Light up your Auxiliary" and that was the goal. This was the best 2 ½ days ninety-nine auxilians spent learning additional ideas to help their auxiliaries.

"As volunteers at our local hospitals and health systems, we want to stay abreast of regulations and the needs of our facilities," said Shaner. "Our conference committee created an integrated program of related topics such as ‘You are the Light’; ‘Retail Hospital Gift Shops Business---is Show Business’; and ‘Unleash Your Potential’. There was a legislative update that is a must. As auxilians, we must communicate with our legislators to educate them on what is best for our hospitals and their patients."

"We left State College renewed and ready to light up our auxiliaries," Shaner said. More details on each presentation can be found at, click on the PAHA link, then click on PAHA Newsletter and look for the July, 2013 newsletter.
