Patty Manuel smiles brightly following dental work that was completed recently at
Bradford County Dental Health Services in Towanda. The January 2013 inset
photo shows Patty before her dental work.
Bradford County Dental Health Services, located in the Progress Authority building
on Elizabeth Street in Towanda, has been providing dental care for uninsured and
underserved residents of Bradford and surrounding counties since 1997.
Patty Manuel, a resident of Bradford County, needed dental care and did not have
insurance to cover the cost. As a mother of six children, four still living at home,
finances did not allow for insurance premiums or money for dental care.
"I was enduring frequent toothaches. I was very unhappy with my teeth and that
prevented me from smiling," Patty said.
Patty knew that if she could get her dental work done she would feel better,
smile more and go out more. She would even consider getting her photo taken
with her family. "I would probably think I just won the lottery if my teeth were fixed.
I thought I might be more confident when I smile."
Then she discovered Bradford County Dental Health Services. "I was thrilled when
they said they could help me, I thought I was dreaming," she said.
That was back in January. Now, with dental work complete, Patty has the smile she’s
dreamed of with help from a Delta Dental grant. "It feels great to have a beautiful
smile again," she says. "I am grateful to everyone at the dental office."
In preparation for her "after" picture, Patty enjoyed being pampered with a new
haircut, color and style compliments of Character Cuts Salon in Towanda. "I feel
ten years younger," she said tearfully. "I really appreciate everyone who has helped me
including Jennifer Epler, owner of Character Cuts. She did a wonderful job with my hair."
