Larry L. McCullough, MD, OB/GYN
Dr. Larry McCullough was born in Washington DC, the oldest of three sons.
He graduated from Fredrick Douglas High School where he played football and
discovered his fascination for science. His father worked for the US Government
and his mother was an educator.
Early life experiences with his ill grandmother, together with a deep interest
in the study of science, compelled him to pursue the study of medicine.
"I wanted to make a difference," he said.
Dr. McCullough is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Howard
University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Together, Dr. McCullough and his wife, Maude, have four children: 23-year-old Whitney,
19-year-old Jordan, 15-year-old Jilisa and 13-year-old Loren.
They also have a one-year-old granddaughter, Fayth.
Dr. McCullough has delivered more than 1,000 babies. He has 18 years of clinical
practice experience involving high risk obstetrics, obstetric emergencies,
office gynecology, and gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. He is also experienced
in the management of (but not limited to) contraceptive maintenance, menopausal care,
abnormal pap smears, sexually transmitted infections, preventive annual examinations,
urinary incontinence, abnormal menstrual bleeding, osteoporosis, premenstrual dysfunctional disorder,
adolescent medicine, infertility and chronic pelvic pain.
"A highlight in my career happened on June 27, 1998 when I had the privilege of
delivering our youngest daughter," he said. "It was an experience that my wife,
Maude, and I will never forget."
"I held our beautiful baby girl up and gave her to God. It was the zenith of being
an obstetrician. The experience brought practicing medicine into perspective and
what a thrill it was," he said.
"It is an awesome blessing to bring life into the world - to be involved in that
kind of joy creates a humbling sense of well being and appreciation for life,"
Dr. McCullough said.
When asked to describe his fundamental philosophy of life and medicine, Dr. McCullough replied,
"To love God and love the ones He loves. To treat people the way God has treated me.
Considerate interaction with people is the same in medicine as it is in normal everyday life."
"I believe my mission is to love and obey the Lord Jesus Christ in whatever form that takes.
I believe everyone should be treated with kindness, respect and dignity," he said.
Dr. McCullough says he loves spending time with his family, caring for people,
eating dark chocolate cheesecake, visiting science centers and singing gospel music.
"I enjoy taking my wife shopping," he said with a twinkle in his eye.
Dr. McCullough has a deep Christian faith. "I believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior of
our lives," he says. "Without Him, we are nothing." The McCullough's are involved in
ministry. Mrs. McCullough, a registered nurse, is now working full-time in ministry.
"The best part about being a physician is getting to know people. Relationships are
important so that trust can be established. I believe trust is where healing begins,"
he said thoughtfully. "I always encourage women to take care of themselves."
"I consider it a blessing to be here at Memorial Hospital and I enjoy what I do,"
Dr. McCullough says. "Every patient will get the best care I can give - nothing less."
Dr. McCullough joined Memorial Hospital's Community Health Associates LLC in November 2011.
He is now accepting new and established patient appointments. Same-day appointments are
usually available. His full-time OB/GYN office is located at Memorial Hospital's Main
